Hi,
Is there a way to restrict the size of the GL Account number to keep it consistent? It appears that in Cronus I can create the account of about 20 characters in size, while the rest of accounts are just 4 characters.

I am not seeing a way to limit the characters of the G/L Account. This would need to be done with an Extension.
Not without customization. The only limitation is the maximum character is 20 characters.
There shouldn't be that many person who have access to create and modify GL Account number. Rather than customization, just focus on training the person. It is also easy enough to rename the GL account number.
The allowed size is the maximum size specified in the table, if you want to limit to a specific size then you need to add a validation on the G/L Account which can be done using an extension.
