Cascading Option Sets

Hi all,

I'm looking for a solution for the cases entity. Essentially what I'm trying to do is have two option sets which would be best described as a parent/child.

So for example, the parent option set would have the following values

  • Claims
  • Feedback Complaints
  • Infringements
  • On-Road Assistance
  • Service Providers

Say for example if someone selected Claims, what I'm looking for is the subsequent "child" option set to present the options relevant to claims. In this case it would be

  • Claims - Dispute
  • Claims - Query

The part that I'm getting hung up on is that the second "child" option set, theoretically needs to have other options too within it. For example if a user selected "Feedback Complaints" on the parent option set, I'd like the child to then display

  • Feedback Complaint - Branch
  • Feedback Complaint - Email
  • Feedback Complaint - Social Media

Instead of displaying the claims option sets. This might be a simple thing to accomplish, it might not be. I'm hoping you all can lend some assistance.

Just a note also, those aren't the only options that I need to have.

Thanks in advance!

Ethan

    Hi Ethan Hurst,

You could try creating dependent option sets for the same.

    See: msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg594433.aspx

if you need to create dependent optionsets you have two ways:

    1) the first is to create two custom entities, one entity has a parent relationships, add the lookup to the form and set them as filtering lookups

    2) if you want to use optionsets you can use my solution crmoptionsets.azurewebsites.net there is a demo and the download

One probably silly question - forgive it in advance, I am still learning: With the JSON that your tool presents, do I then need to add that into a HTML webresource to present the option sets?

I appear to be missing something here

I'd like to apologise - I'd made a mistake on my field types. It works as expected. Thank you very much for your help everyone :)

check the Prerequisites in the main page, you need to create first an empty webresource, after you did the configuration follow the instructions by clicking the button "Form Parameters".
