Customizing Price List & Price List Items for Quotes

Hi Guys, I'm back again with another question.

Like many people I have quickly noticed the Products Entity does not fit our business. I needed to modify the Price List and Price List Items but again quickly noticed they were locked. After much searching I didn't find any safe way to modify them. So I have started on a journey to create my own Products entity complete with Price List and Price List Items or something similar.

I want to use the new custom entities in the Quote entity so I can build quotes using our own products. The problem is the Quotes entity is tied with the built-in Products entity and inherently the built-in Price List / Items.

Do I have to build an entire new quote system for the sake of wanting to modify the Price List Items ? or is there someway of getting the Quotes entity to work with my custom entities ?

I've been trying this for a few days now but I'm getting no where. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hello!

Creating your own products entity and associated pricelist,.. is a lot of work and needs some code development to get it to work.
Can you explain in detail what you would need in the price list and price list element which is not included in the standard?

I would suggest you use the out of the box entities, and customise them, as there is a whole lot of flow of the system around these items. Why can't you use those entities? Another option would be to have a custom quote website and use CRM as the data store

    Hi Henda79,

Before you started to create your own built-Quote entity, are you sure that you don't have any connected process to the standard CRM, like Opportunity, Order etc.

If yes, then please consider once again, is it worth it or not.

Okay, the Price List Item, yes you cannot add new field even (by safe, not unsupported way) , you can only create a N:N Relationship.

But, you can add new field in the price List Header.

And for Product, you cannot have distinctive product for each Business Unit (since its ownership is Organization)

I have as well difficult scenario for the Quote.

You can just customize the Quote, link to the existing Price List entity.

If you only want to build the Price List Item (new), you no need to create the whole Price List, product, and Quote.

Any requirement you can share to us to help you?

    Thanks.

Thanks for all the responses so far.

Let me explain in a more detail what I need as I may have lost sight of what is right in front of me.

Our "product" is not a traditional product like you would buy from a shop its more of a service. In fact we offer coin-operated machines for a monthly rental or for a share of the profits.

So I could reuse the Products entity with a few workarounds but I know I would need to add more fields or something similar to the Price List or Price List Item.

Is there a way I can just make a new Price List and Price List Item to replace the old ones ? I tried this but the problem I found was I was not able to remove the relationship between the old ones.

Maybe I'm confused how to set this up, so some help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi!

There is no way to replace the price list and item. Can you explain why it is not possible to add the fields you need on the price list item on the product item?

    Hi Christian.

So in your version of CRM 2013 are you able to add fields to the Price List Item entity because in my version the new field button is disabled and any changes made are not saved and im fairly sure it's the same for everyone unless you do some sql surgery.

Is it different for you ?

    Thanks,

No. Changing the price list item does not work. I wanted to know what you want to change on the price list item and why can you not do this on the product?

Right. I'll have another look at the current OOB setup and see if it's something I can use. Maybe i was so fixated with changing the price list item.

    I'll post back soon.

I accepted Aileen Gusni answer as it was quite detailed. It seems creating new entities is too much trouble so I am still trying to use the OOB ones.
