I had an interesting situation today. My client has many deferrals that should span 12, 24, or 36 periods using the "equal per period" calculation method. These would span the 2016, 2017, and 2018 fiscal years, which are all set up in GP.
When entering 12-period deferrals for the current year, everything is fine. For 24-period deferrals, it is fine. For 36-period deferrals, the calculation stops after the 24th period, but does not give any error or warning. The allocation is spread equally over the 24 periods, which results in over-allocating to these periods.
After poking around for a while, I finally noticed that the 2017 fiscal year ends on 12/31, but the 2018 fiscal year begins on 1/2/2018. That one-day gap was my problem.
As soon as I fixed my fiscal period setup (and ran reconcile), everything was fine.

Fixing the fiscal periods resolved the issue.
