Editing a closed lead

I'd like to edit a closed, qualified lead to add the lead source campaign. Is there any way of doing this without reactivating, editing and re-qualifiying (which then creates another opportunity)?

It isn't possible to edit a closed or deactivated record in CRM without reactivating it.

Can I open it and close it again without it creating a new opportunity?

if you go to the closed Lead, press the reactive

Then move the lead onto the next stage and select the previously selected opportunity

this should have updated your lead

then deactivated it and linked it to the previously created opportunity (which you selected)

CRM creates a new opportunity in this case. What you could perhaps think of is to write a plugin which fires upon creation of an opportunity record. Your plugin logic will search for open duplicate opportunity (which was the previously created opportunity), and deactivate with some arbitrary status.

Perfect, thanks Ben. That's much more sensible than creating duplicate opportunities.

@Ben - Thanks for that information Ben. That was very useful.

You can create a workflow that will set the field however you need it. With this you will not have to do anything further than running the workflow against the lead.
