Suggestions for Retiring NAV Database and keep data accessible.

ReportReport

Hello there,

We have a NAV 2013 R2 instance that was used as a Warehouse Management System. We have moved to a new WMS and no longer input data into the NAV databse.

It's living on hosted servers and l'm looking for ways to move it to local, as we need to be able to keep the data accessible for at least 10 years.

If the database is dumped to csv, then I assume the reporting ability goes out the window, so, does that mean all the applications and licensing need to be migrated and maintained in order to keep the data report-able?

Anyone happen to have any experience or suggestions?
Thank you!

I think you can access the database directly without converting it to CSV, so as long as your SQL database has a license, you can access it.
And for SQL databases, you can also use SQL statements to query, which is much more convenient than CSV.

Hope this can give you some hints.
    Thanks.

Yun, thank you for the reply. That is about what the group receiving the data has expected and keeping it in SQL, but... How are they going to get this data into a NAV report or custom report if a customer were to call up looking for it?

I'd rather not wait and let them try to craft up an SQL statement in to some sort of spreadsheet.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
