Issues with In-app notifications, only users with System Administration security roles can view notifications

Hi All,

I've turned on the model-driven app in-app notifications feature (Model-driven app adds in-app notifications - Power Platform Release Plan | Microsoft Docs) and noticed that it's only working properly for me with the System Administrator security role.

According to the MS documentation, it's only enabled for "Users by admins, makers, or analysts", but is there any way to make it available for general users? I provided privileges to the 'Notification' entity to one of our general user security roles, and the user can then see the Notification icon in the top right of the page, but no notification toasts appear and the notification panel doesn't load (see below)

Does anyone know if there are any other privileges that should be provided for this to work properly for normal users?

    Hey Steve, It's a custom model-driven app in D365

    Hi Cameron Parker

Were you able to resolve this issue? I'm seeing the same with our model-driven app that only system admins can see it even though the other roles have access to the Notification table.

Have you turned on the in-app notifications in your custom app?

Navigate to https://make.powerapps.com and click on apps on the left hand side. Click on the ellipse next to the app you want to turn in-app notifications on for, then select ‘Edit’ < ‘Edit in preview’ to access the new Power Apps Designer. Click on ‘Settings’ on the top of the designer. Depending on what version you are on, the setting to turn in-app notifications on or off will show under ‘Features’ or ‘Upcoming’. Don’t forget to publish your app!

    PLEASE MARK VERIFIED IF HELPFUL!

Yes, notifications work for system admins, but not other roles.

    Hi CamParker,

You need to add the read privilege for the following two tables to your security role:

    - Notification
    - Model-Driven App User Setting

Both tables are available in the Custom Entities tab. You can refer to the image below:

Let us know if it works for you, thanks.

It is also necessary to handle personal settings related to the notifications. I have detailed the steps to follow on this blog: xrmtricks.com/.../

    Hi meelamri

Blog post is perfect. Updating the Setting entity did the trick. I'd seen that show up in dev tools but couldn't locate the entity.

    Thanks!

    Hi Mehdi El Amri

Unfortunately I still can't get it to work - the loading notification panel persists, and even after providing all access to the 'Model-driven app User Setting I can't change the TOAST settings still.

The user can see the notification table (viewable through Advanced Find) but the panel wont load properly.

I noted in Adrian Oath's post, that the GA release is pretty recent so it may be not fully implemented for the D365 release that we're running on. Maybe I just need to wait a while for it to become properly available.....
