User Groups Migration Update 25.0

Hello,

I was told that in the October 2023 release there would be a big change with security. The 'user groups' would disappear. We have a certain period of time to adapt it but  I wanted to get ahead of this and proceed with the migration. I'm trying to find complete documentation on this and frankly I can't find anything which is worth. When I run the User group conversion guide, it gives me 2 conversion choices and I don't understand what the advantage is of the option it recommends. If I assign permissions by user this will mean that as soon as I want to add or remove a permission to a user group, I have to do it in each file rather than for the group. This does not seem effective to me. All security was established by group and now I am advised to do that by user!?! In short, I don't understand how to manage this change and I can't find any information about it. Does anyone know? Do you have a link to a detailed explanation of this new feature?

Thanks in advance !

Hi, hope the following information can give you some help.
Business Central 2023 wave 1 (BC22) new features: Manage user permissions using Azure Active Directory security groups (‘User Group’ -> ‘Security Group’)

    Thanks.

    Good day Yun Zuh,

Related to this question and the answers, I still have problems with the migration to Security Groups.
I followed all the steps as per your  link in a Test company (answer from: Yun Zhu) and I reassigned my already existing Permission Sets to each of my Security Groups but it seems that BC does not care and not taken into account (restrictions listed in the Security Group/Permissions Sets).

    • Do I have to recreate all the Permission Sets I already had? My consultant tells me that yes I have to recreate everything security. I find it a bit big that Microsoft is forcing us to redo all of this work and these configurations which are essential to the proper functioning of Business Central and data confidentiality? Do I have to redo everything after activating this feature?
    • Also, in the October release it was specified that this would be mandatory from April, do you know if this is still the case or if it has been postponed?

    Thank you!

Hi, using the method mentioned in my post, you should be able to open the migration tool, so there is no need to recreate it, just check it. Of course there is no problem in recreating it.....
Regarding the second question, as far as I know, there has been no change as of now.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.
    ZHU
