How do you configure a CRM Online instance to hide a system button?

Quick question re: CRM 4.0 Online. Is there any way to hide a system button (not on a form), such as the “New” menu item when looking at a list of contacts, when the solution is deployed as an online version? (i.e. microsoft hosted site)? Seems like you would have to put the jscript function on the window.onload event which works for on premise versions but how can that be done if MS is hosting files?

    Hi Janice,

You have a couple options.  You can run javascript with crm online just fine.  No issues.

But an easier way is to control this via security roles.  If a user is in a role that does not have create rights for contacts, then the 'new' button will not show up.

Thanks, Alex but where would I place the function if I wanted to hide a system button since we're not trying to hide the button on the form???  See attached image.  We're trying to hide the New button in the attached screen.  For the on premise version, we could just add the function to the window.onload event directly on the loader.ASPX page.  However, how do you do this with the CRM online version since we don't have access to these pages?  Using roles, unfortunately is not an option in our project.

    Hi Janice,

Yes - you are correct.  On the main CRM form we can't use javascript to hide that button with crm online.

Why is modifying the security roles not an option?

    Alex,

We want to hide this button so that account creation is locked down to only converting a lead to an account.  So, the users still  need to be able to create new accounts but only through lead conversion.  Hence, we can't lock down the function by user role.
