Reversing of Recurring Journals

Dear Members,

When I tried to reverse a trasaction in recurring journal it is not allowing to post in future date in Business central.It allows only if the work date is changed to future date.How to reverse in future date without changing the work date? Please help me with this.

Hi Sneha,

In Business Central, posting in a future date from a recurring journal requires the Work Date to match or be later than the reversal date. Unfortunately, there’s no built-in setting to bypass this.

✅ Workaround: Temporarily set the Work Date to the future date you want to post the reversal on. You can revert it back immediately after posting.

If your process frequently needs future reversals, a custom extension might help automate or simplify this.

Business Central always uses the Work Date as a control mechanism when posting transactions. If you attempt to post a journal line with a Posting Date later than the Work Date, it will block the posting unless explicitly allowed.

You can also control user setup by putting allowed posting date range

Hello,

Reversing a transaction in a recurring journal for a future date is restricted unless the Work Date is also set to that future date, as the system prevents future-dated postings by default.

To proceed, you must temporarily change the Work Date to the desired future date, post the journal, and then revert the Work Date back.

There is no built-in way to bypass this without adjusting the Work Date.

This is a common scenario when working with Recurring General Journals in BC. By default, BC restricts posting to future dates unless the Work Date is adjusted. But there’s a clean workaround using Reversal Date Calculation and page personalization.

Here’s how to reverse in a future date without changing the Work Date:

Use the “Reversal Date Calculation” Field

On the Recurring General Journal page, personalize the view to add the Reversal Date Calculation field.

This field lets you define a formula for the reversal date (e.g., CM+10D for 10 days into the next month).

BC will then post the reversal entry on the calculated future date, even if your current Work Date is today.

How to Add the Field

Click the Settings icon > Personalize

Select + Field and drag Reversal Date Calculation onto the journal page

Click Done to save personalization

Example Formula

CD+7D → 7 days from current date

CM+10D → 10 days into next month

1M-1D → Last day of next month

This method gives you full control over reversal timing without needing to alter the global Work Date.

Workarounds to Post in Future Date Without Changing Global Work Date
Here are a few options:
Option 1: Change Work Date Temporarily (Safest)
This is the recommended and safest method, as it doesn't affect other users.
Option 2: Use a Custom Posting Date Field (Advanced)
If you're developing a custom solution, you can:

Add a custom field for "Desired Posting Date"

Use AL code to override the Posting Date during posting logic

This requires customization and careful handling of posting routines

Option 3: Schedule Posting via Job Queue

Create a Job Queue Entry to post the journal on the future date

This way, the system posts it automatically when the date arrives

Important Notes

Ensure the Allowed Posting Date Range in General Ledger Setup and User Setup includes the future date.

If you're using approval workflows, make sure the future date doesn't conflict with approval timing.
