Manufacturing Pointer Routers

Anyone here can advise on the use of pointer routers for manufacturing?

Battling permissions to pointer router use due to parent company not using them.

Question is: It appears that a pointer router is nothing more than an operation code, or collection of operation codes representing multiple operation sequences. So, if I set up a pointer router with 3 operation sequences with their own respective workcenters and opcodes, what is the difference if just set up the operation sequences in the regular router and just use the opcodes?
