Last ditch attempt.
We are a small organization, so I am having to learn this as I go, and I'm no tech expert by a long country mile.
What I am looking to do is set up CRM9 with IFD so we can look at our option for future development. I have managed in the past to set up CRM and IFD , but these were both on one 2012 server and I got there with more luck than judgement
We moving our operation to hosted servers in the cloud and I have been tasked with trying to set up CRM with IFD. These will be set up on a new domain
Currently I have available to me ;
VM1 - Windows 2016Srv with IIS set up currently hosting a Web Application on port 443 Internal / external IP address
VM2 - Windows 2016Srv with SQL2016 Internal IP address
VM3 - Windows 2016Srv - currently Blank external / internal IP address
I also have a purchased wildcard certificate
So far I have tried following several different threads and site tutorials, but these all seem to relate to installing on the same server ( which I have tried and failed )
I am looking for help as to which sever CRM should be installed on , which server ADFS needs to be on , and a tutorial / help configuring the IFD

I have the same question (0)There's alot to unpack here man. Have you checked out the Microsoft docs? That's probably you're best bet to start with. CRM ins't terribly difficult to install but there is alot to go through.

Once you get CRM installed (it will setup the databases for you) if that server can communicate with the SQL server, it will also let you know the prereq's and also even download most of the stuff you need (install crm on the iis server). Then you'll have to configure adfs but that leads to alot of questions: And once you get adfs installed, the configuration should run itself (of course, follow a guide for setting up claims/IFD, binding your cert, manage private keys, setting thumbprint if needed, etc)
Have you run into a specific problem thus far? Once you start the install, it will walk you through the prereq's. But I mean, getting ADFS up and configured requires a bit of intimate knowledge of your infra. Is AD on the 'hosted' servers as well? On top of that, there are alot of networking questions to unpack here. Are you doing a hybrid trust to bounce adfs off your local ad? You have a server with an external/internal address? I'm not really sure what that means.. are you using a WAP, or NAT'ing with a FIrewall?
Or reach out to a Microsoft Partner! They will help you through this process with ease and make this transition much less painful or painless.
