Is it possible open list page (based on temporary table) in edit mode by default?

We have a custom page in Business Central that is based on a temporary table, and the page type is List.
When the page opens, it is in view mode, and the user has to click Edit List to start making changes.

Since this page is mainly used for selection and updates, and the data is temporary / session-based, we were wondering:

  • Is it possible to make such List pages open in edit mode by default?
  • Does this behavior depend on the PageType (for example, List vs Worksheet), even when the source table is temporary?
  • Are there any supported patterns or best practices to avoid the extra “Edit List” click for operational pages like this?
Any help or pointer is greatly appreciated.
I have the same question (1)

I dont think it matters if its a temporary record or not.
List pages are by default opened in View mode while Cards default mode is Edit mode.

If a custom List page is based on a temporary table and the page is marked as Editable = true, the page can open in an editable state, allowing the user to start entering data immediately without clicking Edit list.

    Hello ,

List pages in the web client always open in view mode → user must click Edit list

    Temporary tables don’t change this

Worksheet pages are the correct pattern for “open and edit immediately”

    You can also:

Open the page via an action with RunPageMode = Edit

There’s no supported way to force a List page to open in edit mode everywhere

    Best practice:
Use Worksheet (or open via Edit-mode action) for operational pages.

    Hi,

Here’s the answer you’re looking for:

    • If the PageType is set to Worksheet, the page opens in editable mode by default.

    • If the PageType is List, it does not matter whether the source table is temporary or not.

To allow List page to open in Edit Mode by default -

      • Ensure the Editable property is set to true

      • Make sure UsageCategory is NOT set to Lists.

      • Change the UsageCategory to Tasks or Administration. (IMPORTANT)

Do mark as verified if this helps,

    Aman K

Hi, It looks similar to the standard Item Tracking Lines (6510, Worksheet), you can take a look.

    PS:
Dynamics 365 Business Central: Run code in an action without using the OnAction trigger (RunObject, RunPageLink, RunPageMode, RunPageView, and RunPageOnRec)
