required field not working?

Hello - I need to make Subject a required input field for Requests. I opened the Request > subjectid field through CRM customization and set Requirement Level to "Business Required":

Then I saved and closed the field customization and all my open browser windows and reopened the CRM instance. I was expecting a red asterisk to display next to the Subject lookup on the New Request form. However, no asterisk displayed.

I opened the database through SSMS and IncidentBase.SubjectId was nullable. When I set a field as "Business Required" through customization should it set the corresponding database column to "not null"? Did I take the correct steps for my task above or am I missing something or making a false assumption?

    Did you also publish?

Click on the entity (one level up fro where you added the field) and in the ribbon you should see "Publish"

It does not change the database settings, the field requirement level is handled by the application logic, not the DB. Note that "Required" is only enforced on forms, not other methods of data entry such as data import , workflows or plugins.
