I am creating the production order out of the sale order, the sale order line is placed for site /1/ the production itself must take place in site /2/
The question is if this is in general possible and what are our parameters I need to consider.

    Hi,

If the item tracking code is set to "None," then it should be possible to create a production order out of a sales order even if the sales order line is placed for one site (/1/) and the production itself takes place in a different site (/2/). This is because item tracking is not being used to track the location of the inventory, so the system is not restricted to producing the items at the same site as the sales order.

To set the item tracking code to "None" in Dynamics 365, follow these steps:
    1. Go to the Inventory management module.
    2. Click on Products and Categories> Items.
    3. Select the item you want to set the tracking code for.
    4. Click on the Tracking Dimension Group tab.
    5. In the Tracking dimension group field, select None.
    6. Click on the OK button.

Once you have set the tracking code to "None," the system will not track the location of the inventory for that item. This means that you will be able to create a production order out of a sales order even if the sales order line is placed for one site (/1/) and the production itself takes place in a different site (/2/).

    Regards

Production order out of sales order
When creating a production order directly from the Sales order line, the sites must match. Physically, the item can be produced in a second site, and then transferred to the site of the sales order via a Transfer order. But a directly linked production order causes extended marking to fulfill a production order from the same storage dimensions that the order was placed under (i.e. site and warehouse).

So your options would be to:
    1) allow deliveries out of multiple warehouses and enter the sales order line for the warehouse the item will be produced from
    2) create a sales order line then create a transfer order to fulfill that sales demand from the production warehouse where the production order will be placed from. You can do this manually or with the help of Master planning. You can also do this using the same Product and Supply option you have for the Production order, by instead selection Transfer order:

Hello Kevin, I am also positive that it should work, according to your comment you suggested me to check item tracking. Item tracking is “none.” so it should be OK. Other two points, I tested and it is OK.
    Thank you!

    Hi,

Based on your description, you want to create a production order at site /2/ when the sales order is placed for site /1/. In general, this is possible, but there are several parameters to consider:

    1. Material Tracking: Ensure the required materials can be tracked at site /2/.
    2. Production Line: Confirm if site /2/ has the appropriate production line to handle the production order.
    3. Inventory and Transportation: Consider material scheduling and transportation from site /1/ to site /2/.
    Best regards,
    Kevin

You site must be same as the sales order as system pick inventory from where it is available which is what you have entered on the sales line.
