MRP Scenario testing in D365?

Hi;

I'm looking for the capability to simulate impact of potential demand requirements through the BOM for quick analysis on Supply Support.

For example;

Finished Good SKU A has a potential incremental demand element of 10,000.  In order to understand our capability and timeline to support, the cleanest way would be to run this additional requirement through MRP and look at capacity, existing supply, and the various action / delay messages.  For obvious reasons I wouldn't want to do this in the live environment.

Would we essentially just need to create another Master Plan that's duplicate of live MRP with the same refresh schedule to do any scenario planning in.. or is there an easier way to do it?

Thanks!

-Phil

    The easiest way is to use a separate plan for "what-if" scenarios. You can change the demand and run planning optimization for each iteration. Required solution components are available in the link below:

    Yes, a new Master Plan is the way to do it. It allows you to use a different Sales forecast model, and override the normal time fence parameters if needed.

    Planning Optimization is the fast planning of Dynamics, so that you will be able to run any simulation or what-if analysis in minutes! Create a new master plan for each scenario.

    Run Planning Optimization for your plan and it will take into account all the items that you run for the plan or filtered. Remember to include the subcomponents if you run a filtered run.
