How to report on custom fields on Activity entities?

I need some help/direction on how to set up a report to return the results of a custom field on the various Activity types (Task, Fax, Phone Call, etc.).

As I could not modify the Activity Entity for CRM 4.0 Online, I added an attribute (picklist) and modified the main form for each of the activity types. The custom attribute is named the same on each entity.

I would like to have this field show on the Activity Detail report, but I cannot modify it, so I attempted to setup a new report, but when I choose Activity as the primary entity, I cannot show the custom attribute on the report anywhere.

Can anyone point me in the direction of how to show custom fields on related entity reports like this?

David

I did publish my customizations - as I said, I have access to the custom fields / attributes on the entry forms. What I do not have figured out is how to report on them.

Microsoft CRM will not show new fields under the Activity Entity (or ActivityPointer as it is termed behind the scenes in the system), but only on the Task, Fax, Phone Call and so on in same fashion as you had to create them for each - so to see the Picklist attribute you have created, you have to report on the indiviual Activity Type Entity rather than the underlying All Activity Types Entity if that makes sense.

Unfortunately what you need to do is write a SQL Query for your report which combines all the indiviual Activity Type Entities into a single set or rows using a set of INNER JOIN statements. (apologises if that makes no sense if you do not know SQL)

This will involve creating the report in Visual Studio rather than the Report Wizard to my knowledge.
