Backorders - How do you manage items coming back into stock?

Is there any way Business Central can understand/manage backordered items?

The only way to fulfil the backorders as i understand is by manually clicking onto orders and checking the lines and then manually creating picks for the item?

It seems all of the default user role layouts assume this never happens as there are no filters/menus to identify and create picks/ships for items that have come back into stock.

The only thing i can think to do is create a separate function from our website that looks at Stock vs Released Sales Orders to identify which ones picks can be created for? As from what i can see Business Central has no functionality?

I have the same question (0)

would be great, if you write a blog post about that in detail.

Unfortunately a static report just wouldn’t cut it in our warehouse it’s a too manual process.

In the end we have built a dashboard for the warehouse which works really nice.

Takes about 10/15 seconds to run the query, but loops through all of the orders and works out if there is available stock to ship on the line.

These are put in a column “ready to ship” and the outstanding orders where there is no available stock as under “backorders”

Really nice as we can associate the pick action with the order so these numbers are visible together when you go to pick in the warehouse. As well as grouping orders from the same customers.

That seems like the best solution for our setup

goto page "item list" -> menu report -> "inventory - sales back orders"

    some help can be following:

    open a sales order

the sales line infobox gives you an information about the item availability and needs. you can use that functionality for a custom solution.

    Hi Franz,

At least that clears it up, so technically not possible in Business Central.

What i am going to do is make a web based screen to display the orders/picks that need actioning based on available stock and released sales orders.

Thanks for your help as i can get on and build that knowing its not possible in BC

    ok, understand.

what you need, is not part of business central, so needs a customization.

this topic was discussed in earlier forum threads, like

    also checkout the put-away worksheet.

Hi Franz, this is for sales orders that are open, in which all of the available stock has been picked.

When new stock arrives in on a purchase order there is no clear way to identify what orders can now be sent out now the stock is booked in and available to ship in the warehouse?

for sales orders use return orders for items, which were sent back.

    for purchase follow docs.microsoft.com/.../purchasing-how-process-purchase-returns-cancellations

From what is seems there doesn't seem to be any solution for this in Business Central but all i think i can think to do is create a web based interface (as i have the data already on our website) to read the sales orders and inventory and then recommend to the warehouse their next job in a list, i.e.

    Sales Order Number

(Create Shipment) - New sales order that has arrived where stock is available on a line

    Sales Order Number

(Create Picks) - Existing sales order where stock has become available to release the order

A real shame you cant seem to be able to filter orders to isolate backorders and more importantly backorders that can be picked and shipped as new stock has arrived.
