Can you create purchase orders for components of a manufacturing order? {If you are trying to build and are short components can the system create a purchase order for the short components, and then when received in link back to the MO}

if so, what manual would talk about this functionality.

Thanks!!!

    You might be able to use the Outsourcing function in Manufacturing to do this Andrea.  You'd find discussion about this in the Manufacturing Printable manual under Manufacturing Production Functions>>Part 3 - Outsourcing.

    If you are trying to 'allocate' the specific components to a specific MO, I am not sure it can be done.  MRP will make sure you have the correct qty on the correct day, but not to a specific MO.   Even from a customization perspective, I think that may be difficult unless you would approach it like the SOP to POP feature where you can (1 at a time) create the link.

    Thanks for the replies - i was really looking to see if MFG had the ability to create purchase orders for inventory items if they were short on qty to build the MO - if could auto generate a PO - similar to SOP to POP.

    yes you can create Purchase orders to buy your compnents to make a product from within the Manufacturing order entry window. The thing is, your router should have a step for each PO you will need to create. i.e. create a outsourced step in your router to purchase raw material, another step to purchase parts, another step for each outside service you will issue a PO for. Then once the MO is realeased, you will be able to go to the MO/PO like screen and issue POs for those steps in the router.
