Best AI Tools for Business Central AL Development in VS Code

We are a small-to-medium company that provides Business Central solutions to customers. We have a team of around three entry-level developers with about one year of experience. To speed up development, we want to use AI tools such as Claude AI, GitHub Copilot, and others to help rewrite logic and correct issues in our code.

Currently, I use the Claude AI web model. Whenever we get stuck, I copy and paste the code into Claude and then back into Visual Studio Code, which becomes hectic and time-consuming. Therefore, our organization is planning to purchase an AI tool specifically for Business Central AL development.

Can you suggest the best AI tool that integrates directly with Visual Studio Code? I know we can include other models like Claude ai 2 , codex ......in GitHub Copilot inside VS Code, but I need guidance on the best overall approach for AI-assisted AL development.

Hey buddy, if you’re thinking of giving the entire responsibility to AI without major intervention from developers, it won’t work that way as of now. AI can help you with snippets or more detailed pieces of code, and it can reduce your monotonous work. But it cannot give you 100% ready-to-use code that you can directly publish and expect everything to work perfectly. It may give you around 80%, but the final touch will still be needed. So I’d suggest adjusting your perspective a bit.

Use GitHub Copilot inside VS Code + Claude or GPT-4.1 models.

This is the current best-in-class setup for AL development.

Nothing else integrates better or accelerates AL coding more reliably.

However, I personally feel that AI can only serve as a reference at present. In many areas where human judgment is still required, and especially regarding core logic, AI cannot offer good suggestions or simply provide random code suggestions.

You can use the Agent and Ask features directly in VS Code, which is very convenient. It supports almost all current models.
