Dedicated Bin preventing the picking from Default/Fixed bin

Hi All,

is anyone having experienced troubles when creating a picking from a warehouse shipment of an available item to pick from his default /fixed bin meanwhile the same item has another quantity in a different dedicated bin type?
the system returns with the error messagge " Nothing to handle" , and the only action that can over pass the problem is to reserve the quantity from sale order. If I do that, then the system creates teh picking.
Another action that helped me to get over the error, is to move the quantity from the dedicated bin to the fixed/default one, but that was just to test the system , it would not worth for the customer as solution.

On the on line guides there is nothing referring specifically to this type of error. I was wondering if any of you came accross the same problem and if understood the logic behind.

thanks you so much
Elena

The error Nothing to handle when creating a warehouse pick from a warehouse shipment in Business Central is usually caused by bin ranking, bin type settings, or availability constraints. Here are best approaches for your use case:

    1. Check the Bin Type – Make sure the fixed bin is set up correctly and allowed for picking. Some bin types, like “Dedicated,” might have restrictions.

    2. Try Reserving the Item – Before creating the warehouse pick, go to the sales order and manually reserve the required quantity. This helps the system recognize where to pick from.

    3. Review Your Warehouse Setup – Check if settings like FEFO (First Expired, First Out) or Directed Pick and Put-away are affecting how items are being assigned for picking.

    4. Adjust Bin Ranking – If your default bin isn’t being picked from, increasing its ranking might help the system prioritize it over other bins.

    5. Move the Stock if Needed – If all else fails, create a warehouse movement to shift the item from the dedicated bin to the default bin so it can be picked smoothly.

Hope this solution might solve your Error!

    Hi Mans

thank you so much for your answer.

The location is not set for Directed put Away nor FEFO. The location from where I needed to pick is default/fixed bin for that item and in this company bin ranking and collocation types are not used.

Indeed the reservation worked out and let me picked that item from the location, I am wondering if in the complexity of this type of procedure, sometimes some operations are just not supported and only need to look for a workaround , rather than understand the logical behind..?

    Hello, You're very welcome!

It’s definitely frustrating when logic doesn’t seem to align with expectations, but I agree that in complex setups, finding the most efficient workaround is sometimes the best approach rather than trying to decode every system behavior. Glad that the reservation trick worked for you!

    Hi Elena,

Error usually occurs when multiple people and handling or working same line or pick is not created yet.

But you are right I wish it can tell more just nothing to handle.

    Thanks
    Ramesh
