Setting Up Modern Dev sandbox for BC 365

I'm just starting to learn the new modern development. Which is better way to setup the container sandbox: Azure-hosted or local-hosted container sandbox?

If I chose Asure hosted do i need to host the BC 365 database on the cloud or can I use in primis database? I have few customers that prefer to keep there database on Primis rather that hosted it on the cloud.

Is there an article that can guid me through the setup? Also;  a guide on how to use the new develpment tools?

Thanks.

Azure-hosted container-based sandboxes consists on an Azure VM with all the tools installed. Database is SQL Express in the docker container. If instead you install a local-hosted container, you have a container that runs in your local Docker environment. As standard, database is inside the container on Sql Express.

Please remember that docker-container environments are not for production, they are sandboxes environment used for development and testing purposes.

To use a different database server (for example a local Sql server instance) with a Docker enviroment, please refer to this post:

Thanks Stefano for your help. So just to make sure I understood you, I can still create extensions to the on Premise database even though I'm using Azure Hosted Container, right?

Yes sure. When you create the VM you can choose the D365BC docker image you want (onpremise or SaaS version).

Great. Thanks so much for your help.

If I have 2 different databases Do I need to create a VM for every database I have?

No. The Azure VM template creates a developmental environment, normally used to start developing and testing extensions. You create an .app file here and then you can deploy this .app file to your final environments.

Thanks again Stefano. I do appreciate your help.
