GP 2015 - Smartlist not opening

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

Hello,

We have one end-user that is not able to open the Smartlist window.  An administrator can use the affected user's GP instance and it opens just fine.  If the affected user goes on another PC where Smartlist works for others, it still does not open.

Upon clicking the Smartlist icon (in both the menu, and also the shortcut), it simply greys out and nothing happens.  It does not show up in Task Manager, so that tells me it's not hidden, as other forum posts have mentioned.  I followed all the advice in the following link, to no avail:

https://community.dynamics.com/gp/f/32/t/121034

I've tried the SQL fix mentioned here as well:  https://community.dynamics.com/gp/f/32/t/150929

Any other ideas from anyone?

Thanks!

    Hi,

Is the user logged on with their profile in the instance where other users are able to work? If yes, it could the profile and the relative access rights.

Hi Rosemary - The user (who happens to be a Poweruser) who tried on the affected user's PC did not log into their own domain account.  They stayed logged into Windows using the affected user's domain user account. They were able to get Smartlist to open just fine.

It definitely appears to be permissions related, but I am stumped as to what permission, and also why there's an issue - as myself nor the other Poweruser changed any permissions since her issue started last week.  Thanks

    Hi Aaron,

it sounds like this maybe a user specific issue.

Have you tried removing all company access and security roles and adding them back to the same user?

Even though the user is set up as a power user- maybe still add 'smartlist' related roles to their privileges.

    I hope this helps.

When we upgraded from GP10 to GP2013 there were some issues that came up with user profiles. GP2013 is a lot more detailed than GP10, since the roles and tasks were initially created in GP10, I printed out the profiles of those who were working and worked backwards and saw what was missing.

Not sure if there an easier method.

Just for testing purposes, I have since given the affected user "PowerUser" privileges, and it still is not working.  I am considering creating a new user and starting fresh.  Is it possible to remove the affected user's account, and create a new user with the same username?  Upon recreating, will the 'new' user attach to the old profile so she doesn't lose her settings and GP-related data within the software?  I'm willing to try any other ideas, but I'm baffled that it didn't work with PowerUser privileges, and it doesn't even show up in the Task Manager.

    Hi Aaron,

You mentioned following the SQL fix from the post but did you run the script or did you find a known working value from another user and use that for the update statement?

    Regards,

    Kirk

Hello Kirk - I found a known working value from another user and used that in my update statement.

    Aaron,

Sorry I couldn't help you with this. It sounds very similar to community.dynamics.com/.../120847 which I posted a while back. From here I might try a few different known working values in the update statement but if none work I would recreate the user.

Before deleting the user I would create a new temporary user so you can copy security from the user, to the temp user, and back to the new user.

If you use navigation lists you might also want to use this dynamicsgpblogster.blogspot.com/.../sql-copying-microsoft-dynamics-gp.html.

For smartlist favorites you will want this one dynamicsgpblogster.blogspot.com/.../copying-smartlists-favorites-from-one.html.

And I started looking for a script for the homepage but then noticed that this is a new feature of GP 2015 community.dynamics.com/.../home-page-copy-new-feature.

If the GP user isn't tied to AD you should have no problem deleting the user and recreating it with the same username. Delete the user from the application first and then from SQL. There may be some lingering settings in the SQL tables that will cause the issue to come back. If this is the case I don't have the scripts to help and hope someone else will chime in.

    Good Luck!

Hi Kirk, thank you for the detailed post.  The links for copying the Navigation Lists and the Favorites do not work with GP 2015.  And you're right, the homepage can be copied over using the built-in copy function.

So I should be able to do the following, correct?:

    1.) Create a new user

    2.) Copy over the security

3.) Delete the affected user in GP

4.) Delete the affected user in SQL

5.) Recreate the user with the same username

    6.) Copy over the security

Is there anything you can think of?  By the way, I checked in our Dev environment and the affected user IS able to pull up Smartlist.

    Hi Aaron,

I tend to be overall cautious with stuff like this so my preference would be to open a support incident if I had some available. If you don't have any support incidents left the steps you outlined look correct however I recommend you backup the Dynamics and Company Database before starting on step one. I would also probably do this after hours so I had time to restore from backup without affecting users if something did go wrong.

When you say it works in the dev enviorment is this a test company setup in GP or an isolated environment with its own dynamics and company databases?

    Regards,

    Kirk
