Hide create new for related entity

I'm wondering if there is a way to hide the create for a related entity. Example: I want to force users to create a quote from an opportunity. They should be able to view the quotes from the account level but not create from the account level. Any suggestions?

The simplest way to do that would be to make Opportunity a mandatory field on Quote so no matter where they make it from, the parent Opportunity has to be associated.

Yes but even if they put in the opportunity field it wouldnt fill in the fields that are mapped through the relationship.

In this case you can Hide + or add New button for Quote Sub Grid on account form.

Here is similar example to hide + button on sub gird based on form value

    ribbonworkbench.uservoice.com/.../489288-show-or-hide-the-add-new-button-on-form-sub-grid

but you can hide this button based on entity type.. To get entity type you need to use JavaScript and call this javascript function on button enable rule.

Or Try entity role.. in button enable rule

    Hope this will help..

    Hi Nicole,

Try to hide the ribbon using this primary entity rule or FormEntityContextRule :

    myencounterwithcrm.wordpress.com/.../crm-2011hiding-ribbon-tab-using-formentitycontextrule

    stackoverflow.com/.../entityrule-in-subgrid-on-custom-entity-not-working

    social.microsoft.com/.../crm2011-showing-ribbon-button-on-specific-subgrids-but-not-others

But, remember, if they go directly to the sitemap or advanced find and create new, you also cannot make the user always go to the Opportunity then Quote again unless you also hide it.

Make the Opportunity as mandatory is one of the  way like what Wayne suggested before and make sure that this Opportunity is not be able to modified, lock it and give prompt to them to close this form and go back to the Opportunity then Quote.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.
