Management Reporter 2012 Performing Slowly

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello:

Not all users are experiencing this.  But, some users of Management Reporter 2012 CU13 have shown me how their local installations are running slowly.

It's not just slow, in terms of running financials from the Report Viewer.  But, it's also slow in terms of opening Report Viewer and accessing its folders.

No other applications are running slowly on these users' workstations or laptops.  In fact, I have even provided RDP files to them.  Still, the application performs slowly.

This does not occur on others' workstations and laptops, like I said.  And, we have been using the applications for over a year.  This is the first time that we have had a performance issue with it.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application on one of these users' laptops.  Still, no success.

We are using the Legacy Provider and not the Data Mart.

Is this a network connectivity issue?  Is this due to the fact that our "ManagementReporter" database is many GBs in size?

Thank you!

John

    Hello:

I noticed that, in Security, there is a permission called "Report library administration".

What if I gave that permissions to all users, instead of making them Administrators?  Would that be a good solution?

    Thank you!

    John,

Open a support incident with Microsoft. If you have already determined the issue is related to security they should be able to get this sorted out fairly quickly. Making users administrators to workaround performance issues is not acceptable in the long run.

Well, as it turns out, the slowness is attributable to lack of permissions within Management Reporter.  Once I made the users to be Administrators instead of Designers or Viewers, the app performed ten times as quick!

    Hi Jay:

    Thanks, for the tip!

Actually, we have been clearing out older report versions.  Still, performance is slow.  :(

We have been looking into the Db size scenario by clearing out report versions.  This thread may prove useful: community.dynamics.com/.../170893
