Relating Site Entity to Account Entity

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Greetings,

I need to show the relationship of four tiers of accounts for customers that are medical providers:

  • Tier 1: I'll call the Health Network.  No medical services are provided at this level.  It is the business umbrella that all medical facilities below it are related.  Not all Organizations are under a Health Network.
  • Tier 2: Organizations are composed of two types.  Those with multiple sites and those without.
  • Tier 3: Sites for which and Organization may have multiple.

I created the hierarchy relationship between Tier 1 and Tier2 using the parentid concept.

My question:  How do I create the relationship between the Organization and a Site Entity?

Using Business Management I created a couple of sites using the same name as the Organization.  The link was not made.  In many cases the name of the site will not match the name of the organization.  I would like to create the sites and the relationships during an import.

RE: Relating Site Entity to Account Entity

    Hello

Creating a Site with the same name as an Account will not create a link unless you have specified one should exist. The easiest way would be to create a 1:N relationship from the Account to the Site and then create a Lookup field on Site using the relationship. This would affectively work as a parent child relationship and you could display all the child records as a sub grid on the (parent) account.

I'm not sure if you plan to use the Hierarchical View function to show this as a diagram, but I don't think it works with records other than Accounts. If that is the case, you will need to create a similar relationship between Tier 2 & 3. This would mean The Tier 2 Accounts are the parent of the Tier 3 Accounts, but a Tier 2 can still be a child of a Tier 1. It is a little confusing, but in essence you can create as many levels as you need, you just need to create a new parent/child relationship for each level downwards.

This TechNet article might help: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn832068.aspx.

    Hope that helps
    James
