Error Opening Outlook

We are deploying Dynamic CRM. One of our remote users is getting an error message now when he opens Outlook.  "An error occurred loading Microsoft Dynamic CRM functionality." Has any one else seen this error? Haven't found much on the web.  Running Dynamic CRM 4.0 with the patch loaded and Office 2007 currently patched up as well.

    Hi Dan,

    There is a KB Error message when you start Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0: "An error occurred loading Microsoft Dynamics CRM functionality" which is similar to your error.

    I heard that in some cases (and if you are talking about laptop/offline clients), this might be solved by going once off & back on-line. Maybe worth a try?

    Hey Dan:

    Try running the CRM Diagnostic Tool on the client experiencing the problem.

    It's located in Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 -> Diagnostics

    Choose to Run Diagnostic.

    This will provide back a listing of potential issues why this could be occurring, but this message usually revolves around the CRMAddin.dll.  It may say that it has become disabled.

    The user can run this if you trust them enough and they do not need administrative privileges.

    We have found that the error occurs because CRM wants the laptop to be closed in a certain way. We use a VPN. The sequence is: Switch on laptop; connect to VPN; Open Outlook; Go on-line. On closing - Go off-line; close laptop. If you get the sequence wrong you have to try going on-line to get the error message before rebooting the laptop and starting again. Someone told me that Rollup 1 makes this more stable but we haven't applied it yet. If someone knows why this happens my people would all love to know.

    Now I need to know why some of my clients have CRM breaking their Outlook 2007 upgrade while others don't!
