Essential license permission conflict

Hello all,

We are developing a cloud extension and when testing on a sandbox (19.0.29894.30403) all users that are not SUPER cannot see/access our objects.

When checking the effective permissions, the extension objects are marked with a Conflict.

When pressing Conflict, a message with the following appears:

"This user has been given the Yes permission to the selected object, but the object is not included in their license. You can only change permission levels in User Defined permission sets. You can replace system and extension permission sets with one that you create."

All users have an Essentials license, all users have the permission set from the extension. I am the only one with SUPER and I do not have a conflicts in my effective permissions.

I have tested running both the "Update users from Microsoft 365" and the "Restore User's default user groups" (then adding the permission set back for the latter) but still having the same conflict issue.

Has anyone else experienced the same issue?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best regards

    Hello,

We saw this before, would you be able to raise it to Microsoft so we can look into.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply Marco.

Where is the best place to report an issue like this, the Microsoft Partner Portal?

    Hi there,

We encountered exact the same problem here, at the first, the user with the permission conflicts cannot even view a sales order, but after we uninstall and install our extension, the user can open and view a sales order.

But still, the permission conflicts are still there after the re-installation.

Have you got this problem solved? If so, could you please tell us the solution?

    Thanks there!

    Craig

I wrote the Microsoft support and they reached out to me. After providing them with more information, I was told that they were going to get back to me as soon as possible. When they do, I will update this thread.

    RE: Essential license permission conflict

An update after going through the issue with a representative from the Microsoft BC support team:

We have not been able to identify the issue that causes the problem of users not having access to extension objects despite having the correct license and permission sets.

We have experienced this issue 3 times this year and I suspect it has to do with pushing an updated to an extension via AL to an environment that already contained an earlier version of the extension and got updated with a new release. This is more of a suspicion considering timing and we will try to be attentive when pushed around new releases to confirm this.

When it comes to the conflict issue you can sometimes see on other users as an administrator; the messaging here is misleading. The users might not experience an actual permission conflict. This seems to be a message issue introduced in a BC release from this year (2021). The only way to confirm that the user permissions are OK is to ask that user to log in and run the effective permissions themselves. If they also see a conflict issue then that user might in fact be experiencing a conflict issue.

I hope this helped. Stay safe.

    RE: Essential license permission conflict

    Thank you.

I also confirmed with our QAs, that we started to run into this problem after we changed our permission set from XML to AL object by following the AppSource Cop Rule AS0094 - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/developer/analyzers/appsourcecop-as0094.

I hope our experience can be helpful to yours.

    Thanks again!
