Is there a good source of technical resources?

Posted on by 65

I made a post about 2 weeks ago asking about database partitions and filetables. There has been a deafening silence leading me to the conclusion that this is more of a user-administration than technical-administration forum.

Can anyone recommend a good source of technical resources about installation, configuration, and maintenance of the GP databases?

I have read the Dynamics GP manuals and I find them to be a little light on the technical details. There are over 200 pages dedicated to setting up security, reports, ledgers, etc but less than 10 dedicated to what the manual calls the "build".

Prior to making my posts I was able to find a few articles by 3rd parties about the topics I need to cover but no official statements from Microsoft.

I will investigate the blogs you have recommended.

First, I would like to thank Naga for including me in his list of folks who add value, next I encourage readers to check an article in my blog that explains the table naming convention and the posting flow of transactions through the system.

I am also happy to answer any specific questions you may have about the  GP data model. My email is leslievail@earthlink.net

Accolade Publications has a book entitled Information Flow and Posting that provides a lot of information about the inner workings of Dynamics.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

    Hi David,

In my view, this forum allows members to post both technical and user administration issues. Its kind of 'whats the problem? - Here is a way to solve the problem' kind of approach. Also this forum may not fix your issues right away but could help in guiding you the best approach to solve the issue a member posts.

If you want to gain knowledge related to Installation and Configuration of GP you can always refer to the Dynamics GP manuals which are very much detailed. In addition to this there are so many blogs written by top community contributors like Frank Hamelly, Leslie Vail, Richard Whaley, Ian Stewart, Richard Wheeler, Mariano Gomez and so on.

Below is the link for you to start of with and you can google/bing a certain topic which will list out blogs available on that topic.

    Hope this helps.
