Dynamics GP 2010 Printing Issues

Hello:

A new GP 2010 user is having printing issues, and she is the only one having these issues.

Specifically, it’s taking an hour to print out 10 pages.  She will release it from the printer, and every page pauses for 10 minutes before it prints the next page.

I have made every recommendation under the sun, to her IT person.  But, he doesn't believe me and I don't know what else to offer him.

Below are the recommendations that I made.  What else can I tell him?

Thanks!

John

    • If you are using a Post Script (PS) print driver, switch to the Printer Control Language (PCL) driver for your printer.  Or, if you are using the PCL driver, switch to the PS print driver.
    • If the printer that has the issue is a network printer, send the report to a different printer that is local to a workstation.
    • If you experience printing issues from Microsoft Dynamics GP, print the report by using Notepad. This is because Microsoft Dynamics GP uses the same operating system printer logic that Notepad uses.
    • Try to print the report to the screen. Microsoft Dynamics GP uses an installed print driver to generate the on-screen preview of a report. If you can print to screen but cannot print to the printer, the problem might be a network issue or a hardware issue.

Often printing issues result from incorrect print drivers installed on the user’s PC or network issues with that particular workstation.

  • Can the user log into another workstation with their credentials and print with faster results?

o   Do this to isolate the issue to their workstation.

  • Is the printer directly connected to their PC or does it go through the network?

o   If on the network try connecting a printer locally, if possible.

  • Have their IT department verify the correct drivers for the printer are being used.

o   If correct, even uninstalling and reinstalling can help.

o   Verify from the printer manufacturer if an updated driver is available.

Try checking her permissions to the Terminal Server's GP code folder which houses the GP modified reports dictionaries.

Try deleting her network profile and recreating it.

Thanks, for the good information, Babu!

Shortly before you responded, I received word that IT had resolved this issue by adding the printer under the user's profile on the terminal server.  This way, when she logs into GP and prints, it will print directly from the terminal server.

Usually when the user has problems with printer on GP in VDI, it's usually due to printers redirecting from terminal server, to VDI,  to the users desktop, and then to the printer.  Adding the printer to the terminal server bypasses all of these redirects.

Again, thanks, for chiming in!  It's always appreciated!  And, I will file the article that you sent!

    John
