Sales Order agent Item Availability

Hello,

I'm getting this availability error. The issue is, the items actually are available. Am I missing a setup somewhere? The agent is reading the order from a pdf.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

Check the material is available on the specific location and not generally. Give screenshot of Document and Inventory.

    Regards,
    Dhiren.

As per Dhiren, I have found a mismatch between some of the screens that you actually see in regard to the sales agent and availability but the underlying calculation is correctly respecting the location settings and the inventory availability by location you have in BC.

I could not get variant availability to work under any circumstances but I have not tried since November.

    Hi,

If you get this message but you believe stock exists, it means the Sales Order Agent’s availability check in BC is returning zero availability for the exact item/variant/location/date/quantity combination the agent is using. The agent does its own availability lookup before adding items to the order.

    Common reasons this happens:

    • The agent is checking a different location or unit of measure than where the stock actually exists.
    • Variants, location codes, or UOMs coming from the PDF or agent parsing don’t exactly match what’s set up in BC, so the item appears unavailable.
    • The agent’s availability setup is filtering out stock because of demands, reservations, or delivery date constraints, this check uses projected availability logic, not just on hand.
    • The item may be blocked for sale or not enabled in the relevant location.

    How to confirm quickly

    1. Replicate the order manually in BC using the same item, variant, location, UOM and requested delivery date.
    2. Check the Item Availability pages (“By Location” / “By Variant”) in BC to see projected available balance vs requested quantity.

If the manual order shows available quantity but the agent still fails, look at how the agent is interpreting the PDF (exact item code, variant, location field, and UOM). Also check the Sales Order Agent setup “Select only available items” option, which controls how strict the availability check is.

    Hello,

This error usually doesn’t mean the item has no stock; it means it’s not available in the exact context of the document. Availability in Business Central is checked by location, variant, date, and tracking, so it commonly happens when the line has the wrong or blank Location Code, a variant mismatch, required lot/serial tracking not assigned, stock reserved or on picks/production, or the shipment/need date is earlier than the availability date. In your case, since the agent is reading from a PDF, it often defaults or misreads the location or variant, which makes BC think nothing is available. Check Item Availability by Location/Variant using the same values as on the document line — that almost always exposes the mismatch.

    Regards,
    Oussama Sabbouh
