Application Version Publish Extensions

Posted on by 5

Good day eveyone,

i'm wondering what would be best practice for publishing a productive Environment?

for me there are 2 possible options:

1. Create a Demo Env. and just copy it to a new service tier, create a new company and switch everything around.

2. Create everything from scratch, with shell commands or the gui.

If i take approach 1. it's pretty easy, everything is installed.

If i take approach 2. the whole thing is quite unclear. I can't find any good ressources for doing a manual Installation of a productive env (not cronus).

I could create everything via script, but im kinda lost now. Everything in my installation seems fine, i can start up the instance, get into my company and do everything just fine. My main problem right now is the fact that i cannot install any other extensions..

everytime i try to publish some of the applications of the DVD it shows me the error:

"A package with name 'Application', and a version compatible with '15.3.0.0' could not be found."

The installation is a clean version of wave2 cu3 (15.3).., What does this error mean?

i tried to find answers on google, but couldn't get the right ones.. i tried publishing symbols, restarting service and so on.

my installed extensions right now are (Get-NAVAppInfo):

As Erol stated, this is a new App introduced with version 15.3

You will not find that application.app nowhere in previous 15.2 or 15.1 or RTM.

Release team did not include application.app in any localized version for 15.3 but it is inside the W1 DVD. You could pick up the application.app from there (it does not contain any localized artifact).

Release team amended the pipeline used to build version 15.4 and this will be included in all versions - localized included - from that CU onwards.

    RE: Application Version Publish Extensions

I installed the "BaseApp" and "System Application" there is no folder called only "Application":

    https://imgur.com/U03AaDF

in your example of the app EssentialBusinessHeadlines the app.json file has no depedency on another app just the application version 15.3.0.0 which matches my error...

but i set the nav application (Set-NAVApplication Service -ApplicationVersion 15.3.40822.0 -Force) level.. i'm really confused what iam missing at this point?

      "application":  "15.3.0.0"

Edit: I checked the demo installation and it seems like there is actually a "Application" Extension installed... but its not in my Applications Folder on the DVD??

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/developer/devenv-application-app-file

Its documented, but the information is obfuscated

Edit2: its even more confusing... the application files on the 15.3 release are not supported because of "A package with name 'Application', and a version compatible with '15.3.0.0' could not be found.". If i take the Application files from the 15.1 release they can be installed...

My Cronus DB in Version 15.3 has an entry for "Application", My Cronus Db in Version 15.1 doesn't... I guess microsoft did not test their own release..

Edit3: Okay i analysed it even further and the W1 global version got the application.app. So it's a problem with the German Version... The 15.3 Cronus got "Application (DE)", but in the W1 Version it's "Application (W1)".

Try installing new app called Applications first.

    You can find it in:

    InstallationDVDFolder\Applications\Application\Source

From 15.3 other MS apps (like "Essential Business Headlines") have in app.json a link to "application":  "15.3.0.0"

That application is Microsoft_Application.app found in the folder I mentioned above.
