Greetins,

We have an item that is setup as "inventory". That item is used in many orders/quotes.

We just realized the error and need to change it to non inventory. BC of course does not allow that as the item is used in sales lines.

What do you suggest to fix this issue?

Create a new non-iventory article. Export all the sales lines, remplace the item with the new article, and import everything back in?

Something else?

If there is no historical transaction, you do not need to create new item. Just need to remove the sales lines, change the item type, and reinsert the sales lines.

if let say I have historical transactions (Example posted invoice) , i must create a new item for it and ignore incorrect product forever?

Yes, you can create a new item because no other way to change its type as item ledger entry has been created for this.

May be you also need to balance the amount posted to Inventory and COGS G/L account because of this item's cost posting.

Also mark this item as Blocked so that you will mistakenly use this item again.
