Store Operations Business Rules Error Message

We have been seeing this pop up on a few registers every once in awhile.  It's followed by another error box that says something to the effect of "Error #5, server failure."  If I click ok on each one, it brings me right back to the transaction, it doesn't kick me out.

Has anyone encountered this, or knows what I can draw from the error message?  Better yet, a fix?
The handwritten notes were for me, so you can ignore that.

    Scott,

    This error basically means that 2 SQL operations are waiting for one another and one of them is being chosen to be killed, in this case the register.  How many registers do you have?  Do you have any 3rd party customizations installed?  Are there any database triggers in the database?

    Please let us know and we'll do what we can.

    Thank you for the reply.

    We have 14 registers running on an average day. When this happened, it was a busy day too, the Saturday after Black Friday.

    We have two RITE add ons, the gift card and express customer setup as well as Retail Hero's Hero Points.  We have some customizations for these too.  I went into SQL mgmt studio and didn't see anything for triggers. I might be looking in the wrong place.

    I don't know if this helps.
