Location-Item stocking limits based on item quantity.

Hi Experts,

How do i configure stocking limits at item level,

for example item A = 10 EA for location A, if its full goto location B

Item B = 20 EA for location A, if its done go to location B.

Currently its taking overall, for example its considering 30 Ea as whole not based on the individual items. Any suggestions please?

Thanks.

I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

You can define location stocking limit per item in Warehouse management -> Setup -> Warehouse -> Location stocking limits

    Hi Alina,

    Thanks for your response.

I already tried location stocking limits, it is behaving strange.

I dont think it is respecting item level stocking.

    For example, I raised a PO for item A = 150 qty.

Stocking limit has been setup for Location A - Item A, ea = 100

    Location B - Item A, ea = 150.

This scenario looks ok, the work is split into 2 lines 100 for location A and 50 for location B.

However i have another item B setup for same location, Location A - Item B, ea = 100.

When i receive the PO it throws error item allocation failed. When I increase the stocking limit from Item A to 200 it is accepting for item B.

Conclusion: The items are not considered for this limits, its basically the UOM and location it is checking. If it is full for ITEM A, item B is not considered. Not sure if there is any setup to control this functionality.

One more observation, if the stocking limit is set for Item A as 100 in location A and 150 in location B. The expectation is 100 can be stocked in location A and 150 can be stocked in location B. Altogether it is 100+150 = 250 ea, however is it considering 100 in location A and 50 in location B. Max is 150. If the overall quantity goes beyond 150 we get item allocation error. Is this expected ?

    Hi Experts,

Can someone help me understanding how this item + location + UOM combination work on the stock limits? It is not working as expected.

    Thnaks

    Hi Jiwan,

It seems to be a problem when you have stocking limits for the same location and multiple items, right ?

I found something similar reported here :

    https://fix.lcs.dynamics.com/Issue/Details?bugId=282355&dbType=3&qc=49f39407081b9f455ce89efc3bc1e4d4dbb6ecbf79bcf532a26728a4f96d3212

    Issue 282355 - By design

Item specific location stocking limits does not work to split put at multiple locations
Product and version: Finance and Operations
    Release: 10.0.7

    PROBLEM

When running with multiple items within the same location and wanting the system to split the stock by using Location stocking limits, per location and item combination, the system does not automatically split the put work lines according to the defined quantities.

    Example:
    Given:

Two empty locations without any incoming work and both allowing mix of item numbers.
    Location stocking limits defined as:

    Location#1 - Item#1 - Qty30
    Location#1 - Item#2 - Qty30
    Location#1 - Item#3 - Qty30

License plate packing structure (ASN) for:
    LP#1
    - Item#1 – Qty60
    - Item#2 – Qty60
    - Item#3 – Qty60

    When:
Processing License plate receiving for LP#1
    Then:
Put-away work does not get split according to:
    Location#1 - Item#1 - Qty30
    Location#1 - Item#2 - Qty30
    Location#1 - Item#3 - Qty30

    Location#2 - Item#1 - Qty30
    Location#2 - Item#2 - Qty30
    Location#2 - Item#3 - Qty30

    REMARKS

Microsoft has evaluated the reported issue and concluded this is by design.

Based on current design when using the Location stocking limits with item number level selection criteria’s, the application will select a valid Location stocking limit record and use the defined quantity as part of the limit for the Location quantity.

Thereby the result for the above scenario will be that the put-away work does get split like:

Location#1 - Item#1 - Qty30 (Total limit for Location#1 - even though the quantity is assigned as part of a line including the item number)

    Location#2 - Item#1 - Qty30 (No limit for Location#2)

    Location#2 - Item#2 - Qty60 (No limit for Location#2)

    Location#2 - Item#3 - Qty60 (No limit for Location#2)

    Regarding the last point:

One more observation, if the stocking limit is set for Item A as 100 in location A and 150 in location B. The expectation is 100 can be stocked in location A and 150 can be stocked in location B. Altogether it is 100+150 = 250 ea, however is it considering 100 in location A and 50 in location B. Max is 150. If the overall quantity goes beyond 150 we get item allocation error. Is this expected ?

This looks like an issue, and I suggest you to open a ticket with Microsoft support to investigate further.

    Thank you,

    Alina

Thanks Alina :) That remark helps, not sure what is the purpose of allowing multiple selection of  items against same location when they are selecting only 1 record per location to validate location qty. Surprised to see this is closed as by-design, definitely not meeting customer requirement.

As per remarks "Based on current design when using the Location stocking limits with item number level selection criteria’s, the application will select a valid Location stocking limit record and use the defined quantity as part of the limit for the Location quantity."
