Home Page and Area Page expand script errors

All active directory logins except 1 are getting script errors when trying to expand or collapse an item on the home page or area page of GP2010.  If the home page xml file is opened in the user temp folder and active x is allowed for the user, they don't have the issue until they log out and back into the system.  Is this a Great Plains issue or a roaming profile issue?

We are having issues isolating the changes between the user that is working and other users as they are all members of the same security groups.

Is there a setting in IE that is not allowing the script to run?

    Hello,

There can be several causes for script errors that occur on the Home Page such as user permissions, missing or corrupt Office Web Components, or from the UserData folder missing due to user folder redirection or another means. Please try the suggestions below to see if we can get the issue resolved and determine what is causing them to occur. The most common cause is that the UserData folder is missing so I would like to start with this first.

    A. Missing User Data folder

    1. Log out of GP on the users workstation.

    2. Navigate to the following location for your user. Click Start->Run and type in the following and hit enter.:

    %appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\

    3. Verify if the UserData folder exists here.

3a. If it doesn't, creat a folder and named it ‘UserData’

3b. The UserData folder is a system folder and if you do not have your folder properties set to show system operating files, it will disappear. Also since the file is hidden by default, creating the UserData folder will cause an error stating that the folder already exists. This is fine and will verify that the folder is there so you don't have to unhide protected OS files.

    4. Log back into Dynamics GP and verify that the issue no longer occurs.

    B. User Permissions

    1. Please verify that the user has full control to the following paths.

    A. The GP Code Folder (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics\GP).

    B. The user's Temp Folder.

    i. This can be accessed by going to: Start | Run and entering %temp%

    2. Any shared locations for Reports, Forms, or Dictionaries.

    C. Missing or corrupt Office Web Components.

I've included the links to download the different versions of the Office Web Components depending on the version of Office you have installed. If you have already installed the Office Web Components please try to run a repair on the installs. This will resolve any issues with the installs.

If you use the 2007 Office programs, you must install the Office Web Components for Office 2003. If you use Office 2000, you must install the Office Web Components for Office XP. For Office 2010 the same installs can be used as if running Office 2007.

    A. To obtain the Office Web Components for Office 2007, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Note The Office Web Components for Office 2007 are a service pack for the Office Web Components for Office 2003. You must install Office Web Components for Office 2003 before you install this service pack.

    B. To obtain the Office Web Components for Office 2003, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

    C. To obtain the Office Web Components for Office XP, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Note If you download one set of the Web components and you still receive this error message, download and install both sets of the Web components on the same system.

    D. Users Temporary Internet Files

I would like to have you delete the Temporary internet files for the user. This can be done with the following steps.

    1. Go to Control Panel > Internet Options

    2. Click on the General tab and click on the Delete button in the Browsing History section

    3. Place checkmarks beside Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History is not already checked and then click Delete.

    4. In the General tab, click on Settings and choose Every Time I visit the Web Page in the Check for newer versions of stored pages section

RE: Home Page and Area Page expand script errors

    Hi Jonathan,

I've the same issue as the original poster of this topic... with one difference... All the above suggestion are of no help :-)...

To start, not every user experience the issue... it was only one that was calling in and reporting that any menu that he tried to expand was generating a Script Error Pop-up form..

Since GP is running off the Citrix XenApp server, what I usually suggest to the users is to start the IE browser and go into the settings and flush the cache... but that doesn't work all the time.

Now based on your tips and another posting I found from Mariano Gomez with a similar issue, I figured out that the culprit was on the UserData folder of the User's Roaming profile. The problem is that you can't see this folder thru the regular Windows Explorer form and you need to type the name explicitly in the path... and even then it won't be of much help, because all the relying sub-folder and files are hidden as system files, despite the fact that the option is enabled to 'show system & hidden files/folders'.

I ended up opening a CMD line prompt on the Citrix server, navigated manually into the user's roaming folder (c:\users\abcde\AppData\roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UserData) and used the DOS command to list the files/folders from this point :

DIR *.* /AS   <-- this will list the actuall level of the UserData folder.

Now make sure that no GP session is started for this user, otherwise you're not able to delete the files, because they are locked by another process (according to the system :-) ).

Then you have to type a delete statement :

DEL *.* /S /AS  to wipe out all the files including the subfolders

To complete, remove the existing temp folders in UserData :

RMDIR  /S /AS .     <-- the dot at the end is important, it represents the current folder

Once this is, you can validate with a DIR . /AS if everything has been removed. There should be no files or folders left.

The GP client can then be started again from that user in Citrix XenApp and the temp folders + index file are going to be recreated. The Script Error message is gone too !

I know this has happened in the past quite a few times and wanted other users to have a chance to fix it for good. However, there is no evidence that it won't come back in the future and what causes this issue...
