Setting up Serial Number inventory tracking

Hello,

My company is looking to start tracking some of our parts by serial number. We purchase the items and they already have the serial number. We just want to store that number in the system with the part. Then when we resell the item, we can pull that serial number to the sales order.

Can anyone point me toward a good video or link to setup this process in D365F&O? We are not doing any tracking right now and just want to do it for certain parts.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Check this link out for sales process,

    docs.microsoft.com/.../register-serial-numbers-sales-process

    And you can use puchchase order line/Update line/registeration to create serial number when processing purchase.

    I tried that with the purchase order. It will not allow me to type in a serial number or ever click the create serial numbers. it is all grayed out. Are there some setups i need to do or allow this?

    Make sure you have serial number acticated for the tracking dimension group of your item,

    Hey,

    That is active, but how to do i change it on the part? I want to changed that None to serial, but it is blocked out.

    it's at Product -> Dimension groups -> Tracking dimension group of your released product form

    It get the below error if i try doing that.

    The specified tracking dimension group cannot be assigned because at least one item that is assigned to this product is using another tracking dimension group.

    Hi,

    Try to

    1. clear the tracking dimension group on your product first.

    2. then clear the tracking dimension group on the released products of that product.

    3. set tracking dimension group on your product to 'Serial'.

    4. set tracking dimension group on your released product to 'Serial'. (if tracking dimension group is already set to 'Serial' automatically, ignore this step)

    additionally try just to update tracking dimension group on released products

    Hope the item had no transactions

    If the item has transactions, does that mean it can't be changed?

    possible to change after all on hand inventory =0  and no open transactions exists
