Open a filtered view of sales order in excel add-in

I want to create new sales orders in bulk. I want to do it through excel add-in but when I open the Sales order header entity in excel, it opens all the sales orders that are present in the system. We have more than 50,000 sales orders and hence, it takes a lot of time to open. Is there a way to restrict the data that is being populated in the excel add-in. I tried setting up the filters and then opening the filtered view in excel but no luck.

I have the same question (0)

    Good day,

Can you maybe share what you want to achieve? Is it only for export purpose or do you want to modify the data in Excel and import the modified data in Dynamics?

There is a filter possibility in the add-in:

The only disadvantage is that you load & open the data first in Excel.

    Best regards,

@Laurens vd Tang - I think you answered my query with your last statement "The only disadvantage is that you load & open the data first in Excel. ". I was looking to open only the selected number of lines, update them, and republish. But, I guess it is not an option.
I first have to open everything, apply filter, then update and publish. The only downside is the time it takes to open it for the first time.

    Good day,

I believe there are two alternative options:

    1. Export the data via a data entity and apply a filter for a data entity

    2. Export the data to Excel, apply a filter and save the Excel document as a template in the document templates. When you open the document template, the filter of the template will be automatically applied

    Hi,

Laurens provided great thoughts of storing the Excel as a new template. If you look at the screenshot of the Document templates, then there is a setting to apply a filter on the current record. This will not work for the sales order lines, but you can create a template based on the sales order header and the lines.
In the Document templates, link the sales order headers and apply the current record filter. In the Excel template, you can set a filter between the header and the lines. There is an example in the standard using the General journal lines where you can edit the journal in Excel and publish it back. You can use that standard template how to do it with the sales orders form.

@Laurens vd Tang @André Arnaud de Calavon - Don't we have the similar excel add-in for Sales order lines. I only see it for header and for sales invoice lines. I wish to update lines as well now. Any suggestion on the same please?

    Good day,

I believe you can use Excel add-in for sales order lines via the form "Open sales order lines"

Opening the Excel file via Open sales order lines will also open all order lines, not the one for a specific order. I still recommend the approach I shared above by having a single template using both the order header and the lines.
