Authentication questions for CRM

  • Can MS Dynamics CRM Online use SAML for authentication, or is it limited to ADFS only?
  • Do we require a certificate or multiple certificates for an ADFS (or SAML) implementation?
  • When using ADFS (or SAML), would users have access to CRM through a web browser?
    • If so, can access be controlled?
    • What credentials are used in the web browser?  Are they identical to our internal L.E.K. AD credentials?
  • When using ADFS (or SAML), does a user/computer have to identify itself on the internal L.E.K. network, or authenticate against the internal L.E.K. AD, prior to accessing the data within Dynamics CRM Online through Outlook?

    The following authentication methods are supported by Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2011:

    Windows Authentication

    Claims-based authentication: internal access

    Claims-based authentication: external access

    Claims-based authentication: internal and external access

    Your choice of authentication method depends on your organization's design and deployment goals.
