    Josh,

Resources in Service Orders can be People or Fees that are charged/inserted to Service Orders. When People (Resources) you can record time against a Service Order to see if you are making a Profit or if Warranty see if the Warranty/Contract is covering costs. Fee Resources like Freight or ancillary fees make it easy for the User to enter and pre-define the Posting Group to record the revenue and/or cost.

To help, I am attaching my Service Manual.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Hi, Resources are similar to items, as they can be put on a sales order and sold. They have prices, etc., but different from items in that there's no inventory you don't keep track of quantity on hand or anything like that.

Sometimes you can think of it as a Service, this service can be provided by person or machines. They all have their own costs. In the case of person, it will be wages, and in the case of machines, it is the hourly running cost.

Resources can be assigned to service orders, dubbed allocations in that module. This helps with scheduling and a user can see if resources are allocated with the dispatch board page. Away from that resources can be used in a couple of other ways too. Within the service item worksheet or service lines pages you can add resource lines. This is to signify time spent by that resource on the service order - could be repairing, admin tasks or QA. The entry of this data can be manually done on the mentioned pages. The other method is to use timesheets. Each resource record can be assigned to a user record. You can create timesheet records and the assigned user can enter data which relates to time spent on a service order. This data can then brought into the service lines of a service order. You may have pricing in place where this time is charged to the bill-to customer of the service order
