Print custom label from mobile device, independent of work steps

Customer scenario:
 
Items are picked against a license plate, using work template, for sales orders. 
Pick/put steps are complete, with the 'put' location being a holding/marshalling area. So we now have a box of picked items in a warehouse location, ready for further processes. 
Customer then runs a planning process (which boxes/orders are going on which transport vehicles etc), which updates information against shipment in Dynamics.
Customer now wants to scan the license plate on the box in the marshalling area, and produce a custom label with customer/order/delivery information on it. 
 
I can create the (custom) label in D365, but I don't know how to trigger the print, as this process would not use a print line on the work template, as no work is being carried out at this point. I cannot re-print license plate, as we haven't printed a LP so far in the process, and it would be for new information. 
Why is there no mobile device menu for 'print any label you want' and define the label ID?! :)
 
Does anyone have a solution for this, or seen/done something similar?

    The customer makes a call to a planning tool for all of the picked boxes in the 'marshalling' area, and then wants to print a label for each box with the new data from the planning integration (route and drop sequence). This needs to be before the 'put' to the final shipping location, as they want to label all the boxes first, and then move all the boxes for 'route 1', before 'route 2', etc.
     
    I have landed on a solution - they will pick/print/put for every box, using a new menu item with automated confirmations, to 'put' the box in the same marshalling location. This pick/print/put will trigger the label print to the mobile scanner.

    Hi Ben,
     
    I've maybe a solution. You mentioned that you move the items first to a 'holding/marshalling area'. After the movement to the 'holding/marshalling area' you can do the 'final movement' to the ship location/area. During the movement to the ship location/area you trigger the label printing. Would that be an option?

    Hello Laurens, 
     
    The customer is using an external planning tool, which takes all the outbound order/shipment information and allows them to allocate across their own fleet of vehicles, based on quantity, volume and capacity. 
    This information (route, drop ID etc) will be passed back into Dynamics and is to be printed on the labels.

    Thank you Siv for your reply. 

    We need to be able to print from the mobile device (app), as there are ~800 labels per day required for this operation. 
     
    I have found a workaround (I think), with a new work class ID and a new menu item, adding pick/print/put lines in the middle of the work template to pick/put the license plate in the same location, and trigger the LP print line in between.

    Print custom label can be done from the F&O. For the Mobile app some customization to be done.
