RE: Roll up fields cross 2 Entity

Allright, wait. What do you need a rollup field for?

Rollup fields are great for adding up currency fields, or, if you loan customers Computers from HP, Dell, Lenovo, whatever, and printers from Canon and HP, and you have a 'Type' field which can be printer or computer, and you want to add up all the computers a customer has regardless of it's type. Then you know, on a customer, that he has 6 computers from you.

However, if you simply loan 'Computers' - you don't need a rollup field. Simply place a subgrid to facilities/equipment on your account form that shows all the equipment your customer uses and add a quantity field to the facilities/equipment form and show that as a column in the subgrid view.

I don't think you need to filter on business unit. Lets say you have computers from business unit A and computers from business unit B. Simply make sure you assign the computers from Business Unit A to Account X, and computers from business unit B to Account Y.

Having a 1:N relationship means that all equipment becomes specific for that 1(Account), If you want 500 accounts to have computers, you will have 500 different computer facility/equipment records. It also means that you have to assignthe equipment you have to it's respective account.

If you created the relationship, then there is a lookup to the account entity on your facilities/equipment entity, even if you didnt place the field on the form (yet).

    Again, hope this helps!

RE: Roll up fields cross 2 Entity

    Hi,

I created 1:N relationship between Account and facilities/equipment.

It helped a bit... Now I can create roll up field and I can select in related entity  - “facilities/equipment”.

In aggregation section I choose sum, but always I get on an account form sum “0”, although I have almost 2000 records in facilities/equipment. I have to noticed that I didn’t set any filters in roll up field.

Where is the mapping between Account and facilities/equipment? There is no field on facilities/equipment to relate to Account Entity. I want to display on account form amount of equipment (in my case computers) from specific business unit. How can I connect equipment from specific business unit to specific account?

    Kind Regards

RE: Roll up fields cross 2 Entity

If you want to use the OOb Facilities/Equipment entity, you are right in that you wont be able to create a rollup from there to the account form, since the only relationship between Account and Equipment is N:1 - meaning there won't be much to roll up on the Account entity. This is even called 'preferred facility/equipment' which isn't what you are looking for.

Your options are to create a new relationship which is 1:N between Account and Equipment, and then you will be able to create the rollup. Or you could create a custom entity with a 1:N between Account and that new entity.

I usually prefer to create new entities for simple operations like these, because you might run into something you can't solve with a custom entity, and need to use facilities/equipment, making your design more fuzzy.

    Hope this helps!

RE: Roll up fields cross 2 Entity

    Hi,

Yes, of course I have published customizations. The problem is not in creating roll up field but when I try to create roll up field in Account,  I can’t reference to equipment Entity. In section Related Entity I can choose many Entity but not equipment.

The goal of whole operation is showing count of computers (there are collected in equipment) related to account on account form. For example:

On Company X Account form I need to have information how many computers this customer has.

I hope that I explained clearly what I’d like to achieve :)

    Kind Regards

RE: Roll up fields cross 2 Entity

If the value on the equipment form is a numeric value (quantity), you can define a rollup on your account form, with equipment as the related entity and in 'Aggregation' a sum of your quantity field.

If you have multiple types of equipment and want to distinguish between them, use multiple rollup fields and add filters before the 'Aggregation' stage.

In what way did this not succeed? Have you added the fields, put them on a form, published changes?
