Sales shouldn't be able to see the cost price

Hello,

The license model is Microsoft GP 10.0 Business Essentials Edition.

The sales department has access to the following consult because when we have customer they ask the price of the article but the issue is that on that screen and in both screens they can see the cost of the article, I don't know why but it's urgent that sales department can't see this type of information.

option #1 = inquiry>inventory> price list

option # 2= transactions> sales > sales transaction entry and if the go to the line article and click on the arrows they can also see it.

In SOP Setup, the first option on the screen (upper right) is Display Unit Cost.  Un-check that!  That will take care of #2

For #1 you will need Field Level Security which is NOT included in the BE licensing.  (thanks for listing your version and licensing model as we can all respond directly to what you have).  Check with your partner on the cost of adding Field Level Security to your product.

It may be possible to have someone write a customization or a VBA script but I am betting that the FLS cost is about the same and will not need to be checked when the next updates arrive.

Thanks for the heads up on issue # 1, but my partner informed me that i can't that i need to purchase the extender license and then pay for one of there programmers to generate the script to apply it to the field.

On issue #2= could you please provide more detail where I have to go or do?

Question ? Doesn't Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 also provide to program on each screen, how can i at least try it on fabrikam?

     Thanks in advance

For your first answer to how you can block current cost on the SOP document navigate to:

    Microsoft Dynamics GP>>Tools>>Setup>>Sales>>Sales Order Processing

On the Sales Order Processing setup window there is a box in the upper left-hand corner that says 'Display Item Unit Cost', if you clear that checkbox then the current cost will not display on the SOP Entry screen.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Sales shouldn't be able to see the cost price

For the other issue regarding hiding the current cost from the Item Price List inquiry window, you can have your partner remove these fields from the window, or make them invisible. you have the BE license so I believe you can import modifications made to windows made by your partner. Really, any consultant can make the change and send you a .package file.

I think you can probably accomplish a great part of your objective with software you already own.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Make sure you understand what your partner said.  Extender does not do that.  Are you sure he was referring to an Extender license?  Modifier sounds more correct.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Sales shouldn't be able to see the cost price

     Hello Ms. Vail and Richard,

I spoke with my partner and they indicated that if they would remove the fields from the windows it would require programming through visual basic which there is an additional fee for it, even making it invisible requires a fee that they would charge, because they have to contract a programming specialist to do it for them.

Which instead that with the license of the extender we purchased they can fix it in an easier way. I really don't know if they are really telling me the truth but if you could please advice what else I can do because of somewhat desperate.

Thank you in advance. Have a nice day :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Sales shouldn't be able to see the cost price

    Hi Mayra,

I agree with Richard about Extender. Extender does not remove fields from windows. Extender is used to provide additional fields. It is a great module, but not for doing what I think you are trying to do.

I do not think a programming specialist is necessary to use Modifier to make a single field invisible. I am basing this only what I read here in this forum. There must be more to it. What other modifications have already been done to the window? Should the field be invisible to every user or only to a certain user or identified group of users? The version 10 security model allows you to create an 'Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports' ID such that you can control whether a specific user sees the 'out of the box' window or a modified window. The Modified window could be a window that makes the cost fields invisible. If these are the only two options you want, there should not be a 'programming specialist' needed.

I'm sure your reseller is trying to serve you well, but I think it would be best to ask more questions of him. If the change is as simple as it seems, it should not be expensive. Everything you do costs extra, but this is not on its face a big deal.

Keep us posted, I would like to help you if I can. I'm not speaking from a 'call me and I'll charge you' standpoint. I'm hoping that this can be easy and cheap. Please contact me if you think you are hitting a wall - leslievail@earthlink.net.

     Kind regards,

     Leslie

    Mayra,

I just finished writing a book on Extender.  I don't believe that Extender can do this.  If your partner insists that Extender can do this, have them send me a email explaining how.
