I am wondering what the historical side effects are of deleting a segment.
Assume an account string of: 11-12345-123
Halfway through the year I decide to delete the first segment, so the account reads: 12345-123
I am assuming this is possible to do. My question is once this is done how will financial data for the year look? Transactions that have posted and closed from the first six months of the year will contain that segment and the transactions for the second half of the year will not contain that segment.
If I run reports for the whole year and the account format has been changed during the year - how does GP deal with this?

Thanks for the answer Babu. I think we will save the old data/transactions with the 3 segments in an archived company in GP just in case we would ever want that data.
There is one more interesting reason why this is possible. GP won't store the GL account number directly on any transaction. It refers to the GL account index instead.
So, changing account format would not ideally affect the transactions as long as you can retain the index.
Sorry, I interpreted your post as just deleting the segment. Yes, using PSTL Account Modifier, you can change the account format. Then, you could delete the segment.
Hi Danielt,
Once you convert the existing GL of 3 segment onto 2 segment all the financial transactions will have 2 segment not matter which period of the year. The 3 segment doesn't exist anymore on GP.
This tutorial explains how to delete a segment, so it looks like it can be done.
You can't delete the segment if transactions have been posted to the account.
