Creating E-Mail Alert when a specific date has passed

Hi all,

I'm trying to create a workflow (think this is the best process to use), to send an e-mail alert to the owner of the record when the date in a specific field (Projected Start Date) has passed.

I'd need to have this workflow set up in both the Lead and Opportunity entities and I'd want the alert to be sent just once a day until the field is updated.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Many Thanks

Using Workflow in this scenario ,would be costlier . Waiting Workflows will consume alot of system resources  .

I think you should create a Scheduler that will run on EOD and based on criteria ,it will trigger send email Workflow for Lead and associated Opportunity.

    Hi MsChurchy,

Yes, you can do this with workflows.  I would use two different workflows.

    1. Start Alert Workflow

This one handles the first requirement and runs until Projected Start Date is passed (In my example I used Est. Close Date).  Note: Each session of this workflow only runs one day.  It is important to not have long running workflows to improve performance.

After the first alert is sent, this workflow stops, just after initiating Repeat Alert Workflow.

    2. Repeat Alert Workflow

This workflow waits one day and checks if the field has changed.  If not, send alert, start new session, and stop workflow. Otherwise, simply stop the workflow.
