Overview Changes, Patchnotes Versions NAV 4.0 until BC latest

Hello lovely Community,

I have a question from a partner. She needs an overview of the changes Navision has went through with every new version.

Is there a release wave documents database for the older editions, and which capabilities have joined the system?

I have the same question (0)

Thank you all for your answers. I don't know the real reason. I would never try to explain someone how much a version changes over the years. It's a type of sales which adresses the wrong topics to lead to a sales. It's basically a waste of time to open up this topic for a customer because I would prefer to compare less versions, mostly just the latest version with the current status.  You have all helped me much, and I hope our partner will understand the answer as it is. Informative but not a recommendation as a sales pitch.

    Tobias,

I hate to ask this question but why? NAV 4.0 is extremely old and has an extensive amount of new features and functionality and also complete rewrites in Dimension, General Ledger and Posting process, also C/AL code was rewritten to VS.

If you are trying to Upgrade, stop as it would cost you a fortune to upgrade version by version. Just reimplement from v4 to Business Central. I just completed a customer reimplementation from NAV 2009 to BC 19.5.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks,

    Steve

Here is a Github repository where you can track all changes made in code through different versions:

    github.com/.../MSDyn365BC.Code.History

    That might also be useful.

Hi, It's not as simple as it sounds.

Just BC, there will be a Major update every six months.

You can find a lot of new features in the release plan.

    For example,

    Business Central 2022 release wave 1 (BC20):

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2022wave1/smb/dynamics365-business-central/planned-features

    Business Central 2021 release wave 2 (BC19):

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365-release-plan/2021wave2/smb/dynamics365-business-central/planned-features

BC is from 12 to 20, so this record is difficult to find.

For NAV, maybe you can find some info in Released cumulative updates.

    For example, NAV 2018

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/released-cumulative-updates-for-microsoft-dynamics-nav-2018-c469ba91-ee7a-ec06-e72a-6c8e331ea978

    Hope this will help.

    Thanks.

    ZHU
