Editable grids - read only fields are NOT read only

I have upgraded our sandbox to Dynamics 365 and have enabled editable grids for my Opportunity entity.  I was expecting field security to persist in the editable grid, but I AM able to edit fields that need to remain read only.

For example, we have a workflow that auto-populates the Topic field on the opportunity using information from several other fields.  The field is set to read-only, but in the editable grid, I AM able to change the Topic.

Why is this?  What can I do to keep the field read-only?

    Hi,

Editable grids will honour field level security - but not when you set a field to read only on a form. To do this you will need to create a business rule to disable the field.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks Scott!

I added a Business Rule that locks 5 fields if Topic contains data, saved, published, and refreshed but I am still able to edit the fields.

    Hi Barbara,

Please make sure the Scope of the Business Rule is set to Entity.  I just tested this and it works.

    Hi Barbara,

One of the limitations of the editable grids is that it doesn’t respect read-only fields on the form since that isn’t a legitimate way to control security.  To prevent users from editing these fields, you’ll need to either add field-level security to the field, not put that field in the view, or write JavaScript. Read-only fields on the form aren’t read-only! Making a field read-only on a form, only applies to that form.

    Hope this helps.

I have implemented field level security on certain fields and I see that they are locked on the grid (I see the key icon) and yet I can still edit the fields in the editable grids. Is there something I am missing?

    Thanks!

Simply create a calculated fields to represent the Topic attribute you wish to display as read-only.  Use this field in the view et voila!
