I’m currently leading the WMS selection and architecture approach for a mid-sized UK distribution business, using Dynamics 365 Business Central as our core ERP.
- High SKU count, steady to high order volumes
- Pallet, case and each picking
- BC is very much the system of record for inventory, sales, purchasing and finance
- A strong desire to avoid heavy BC customisation
- BC with a lightweight ISV layer?
- A separate, integrated tier‑2 WMS?
How you decided what logic lived in BC vs the WMS (waves, replenishment, slotting, cartonisation, etc.)
Any lessons? Things that sounded great during selection but caused friction after go‑live
If you were doing it again, what would you simplify or do differently?
