RE: Warehouse management module - from Warehouse disabled to warehouse enabled

    Hi David

I don't have experience but I know there should be support for the scenario. This should be possible by using the Enable warehouse setup functionality which is under Warehouse management/Setup/Enable warehouse management processes.

    Best regards

    Hi David,

You are seeking assistance in implementing Warehouse management module (Advance warehouse In Dynamics 365) into existing operations.

Warehouse management module (Advance warehouse In Dynamics 365) has a wide range of features and it is fully integrated with other business processes such as transportation, manufacturing, quality control, purchase, transfer, sales, and returns.

Also, since you are not using Warehouse management module (Advance warehouse In Dynamics 365), a deeper analysis is needed to see how existing operations will going to be changed if implementing Warehouse management module.

Significant setup changes might be required, such as using Warehouse management processes for related Warehouses and Storage dimension groups.
Many business processes might need adjustments/changes, along with a whole range of settings in the Product in regards to processes such as transportation, manufacturing, quality control, purchase, transfer, sales, and returns.

Transitioning to Advance warehouse In Dynamics 365 can be categorized almost as a new implementation, but in many ways more difficult because of the existing transactions.

First, I recommend you to start by fully testing Advance warehouse In Dynamics 365, by deploying a test environment and CONTOSO demo data.
You can start testing in USMF company, using Warehouses and Items that are enabled for Warehouse management processes (such as Warehouses 24, 51, 61 or 63; such as Item A0001 which is using "Ware" Storage dimension group).

Warehouse management documentation is available here:
    docs.microsoft.com/.../warehouse-management-overview

For more details on various related aspects, please consult this blog too (although written for AX2012, it is applicable for D365 too):

Introducing the new Warehouse Management and Transportation Management modules in Dynamics AX 2012 R3 - cloudblogs.microsoft.com/.../

This blog contains links to several other resources related to Warehouse management module, but I would recommend starting with:

Warehouse Management System Implementation Guide - www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Also, regarding implementing changes on existing data/setup/operations, please check this blog:

Migration of Microsoft Dynamics AX WMS to new R3 warehouse and transportation functionality - cloudblogs.microsoft.com/.../

You will find also additional resources on this blog too.

But, besides checking above documents, you can also discuss with other Customers and Partners that might have gone through implementing Warehouse management module, by using also the D365 Yammer group:

    https://www.yammer.com/microsoft.com/#/threads/inGroup?type=in_group&feedId=11821342720

Here are also some alternatives ways to get more information on Warehouse management module:
    docs.microsoft.com/.../
    mymbas.microsoft.com/.../01286481-81c8-4b4d-b702-ae9634ae999f

In the end, I strongly recommend you to discuss internally about involving a Microsoft Premier Field Engineer, or involving Microsoft Fast Track team, or a Microsoft Solution architect or even involving MCS (Microsoft Consulting Services) team, because implementing Advance warehouse In Dynamics 365 can be a complex process, with a high risk of having problems during or after implementation.

    Regards,
    Lucian
