ODBC connection to MS Access

I am new to our company, and only three days into using Microsoft GP. I have MS Access 2007 on my computer, and I see an ODBC link to GP data files. But I nned help:

1) How can I find a Data Dictionary for GP (specifically accounting tables)?

2) Is there more than one ODBC driver? I can see files in my ODBC window, but they do not look like Accounting files. Am I perhaps looking in the wrong place?

Sincerely,

Steve Demogenes

Steve, check out this link, courtesy of Mark Polino of dynamicaccounting.net - www.box.com/.../duvbizv2m5 and Victoria Yudin's blog victoriayudin.com/gp-tables - lots of table info available.

Go to your GP Dynamics GP Button then to Tools, then Resource Descriptions and then Tables.  There are pretty decent descriptions of what each of the tables is used for. I'm not sure what you're expecting to see as files in your ODBC window, but the tables should all be listed and are typically two letters which represent the module followed by five digits which represent the different tables.  The table names themselves are not very descriptive, but you can find the descriptions as indicated at the beginning of this post.

GP uses MS SQL as its database. Simple go into SSMS and look at the databases. You will find all the table there. Look for DSN's that have DYNAMICS or GP in them. That will give you a clue as to which one GP is using. The definitive way would be to launch GP and see what DSN it is using.
